Happy New Year!

Yesterday was a fun day for me at Wilderness. Ryan had guests at the Lodge and it was good seeing the lights on and activity inside last night. In the morning,  I really enjoyed giving a lesson to a family from Reading, Pa.

With Covid, sharing  with any stranger is a bit of a test. Out here in the open and yards apart, I asked if they were comfortable unmasking and they were. You know, that personal touch of just seeing people and talking normally without additional stress, was good for all of us.

After covering the normal safety, skis on, how to fall and other opening drills, we skied across North Field close to the opening of the A Frame. This is the typically the area where we work of extending the stride, increasing the comfort level and give them a chance to acclimate to having skis on.

Normally the lesson would end at this location and we would see back to the lodge. Instead I lead them down the hill and we skied to Practice Field, which was in great shape. We worked on uphill, downhill to increase confidence, and then I showed them the Main Trail which would take them back  and i skied off….Happy for the experience, happy to be skiing in our woods and happy to share this wonderful sport with a family that can now go explore on their own.

This Sport is more. It is a lifestyle, it is freedom, it is being in and part of the beauty of the planet, it is what you want it to be…Come Ski.
